My first pair of Oakleys were Oakley “Frogskins” that I bought in the 80’s. Loved them. Until I recently found something a little cooler. Yes, the creator of Oakley Sunglasses is also responsible for the RED camera that Peter Jackson shoots with.
Great article from Inc. magazine.
And now Jim Jannard, creator of said RED camera, is dissing on the Canon C500. Is it sour grapes, or is he correct? He is a Mad Scientist, that’s for sure.
I’m constantly amazed at the ingenuity that is coming out of the uses of smartphones.
Although as of today it’s not for sale to the public, this looks like a fantastic addition to FRAMES & PIXELS’ audio arsenal. The RODE smartLav plugs to any iOS or Android device, allowing it to record directly to your phone. Audio can then be sent via Dropbox or downloaded through iTunes. Given that on any shoot we probably have a minimum of 2 iPhones, the convenience factor really goes up. RODE makes some great microphones, so I’ve got pretty high hopes for this as a solution.
The iOS app is available here.
More information on the RODE smartLav is available here.

It’s not necessarily a sports celebrity endorsement but my most recent post to Craigslist is something that every Pittsburgh Black & Gold fan (who does chroma key work) should want to own.
Note: I also can’t use the name of the franchise that Ryan plays for, unofficially referred to as the Pittsburgh “Stillers”, because of trademark protection. (See the Samsung “El Plato Supreme” commercial which I find absolutely hilarious.) Lastly, I can’t claim that Ryan officially endorses this product or our work.
But I can use the picture I took.

It used to be that we made commercials for broadcast or cable TV, but really the largest online audience for video is the Internet. According to YouTube Statistics, over 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. That’s a lot.
On the flipside, in 2011, YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for every person on Earth. That means that people are watching those videos.
It’s the world’s largest on-demand democratized video library. Want to show your customers how a particular feature of your product works? Send them a YouTube link. Need to promote an event or offer. Embed the YouTube video on your website. With YouTube’s share feature, it’s become as easy as copy/paste.
FRAMES & PIXELS has been shooting and editing video productions for over a decade. We’ve become the go-to experts in the North Pittsburgh region for developing custom content that highlights your business’ character. Script development, shooting, editing, graphics. We can do that.
Make sure that you’re not missing out on the millions of flat screens, computer monitors, laptops, phones and tablets that are the new path to online video viewing.
Athletes prep themselves for their event or their game; trying to do their best for the moment they’ve been training. A shoot or production day is a lot like that at FRAMES & PIXELS, all the pieces have to fall in place. Check all of the gear the night before… charge the batteries, clean the lenses, wipe the SD cards. The morning of… load the gear (heaviest and most bulky first), check the scripts, plan the shots, review those plans, drink lots of coffee.
When a shoot get cancelled, we lose a lot of effort. Time to re-invest that effort elsewhere today.
One of the things that Frames & Pixels has become pretty gifted at is the “quick-turnaround-we-have-no-footage” spots. Especially when it’s a client we’ve worked with for over a decade. It’s not that we love this type of work, but we know what the client needs. We’re intimate with their style, their message, and can usually turn on a dime.
To top it off, BC3’s Performing Arts Series at the Succop Theater is a hidden gem in Butler County. The variety of scheduled cultural events are rivaled by the arts in Pittsburgh. Modern dance, classic rock, folk & country, poetry & children’s events.
