Salvation Army 24 Hour Renovation |
From the March 26, 2009 edition of The Post-Gazette:
Team Depot, the charity arm of Home Depot, hosted a 24-hour renovation of the Butler Salvation Army Worship and Service Center's after-school recreation area, beginning when the after-school program ended the day before. It included new paint, lighting fixtures, ceiling tiles, tables, chairs and supplies.
More than 50 volunteers from Home Depot, Slippery Rock University and the Salvation Army staff started worked that night and throughout the day to surprise students. The area was outdated and, besides a few coats of paint throughout the years, hadn't been remodeled in at least a decade, staff said.
Pollie Fife, Team Depot captain of the project, attended the after-school care program as a student when her mother volunteered there more than 20 years ago.
"This place was home," she said as she prepared to paint a wall bright green. "To be able to turn around and do this is great. I know the kids will appreciate it."
The Butler Eagle also had some great coverage of the makeover. |

Hooray For Hollywood! Hooray for Phil Ball & Heidi Nicholls! Frames & Pixels shot, captured, and edited (with graphics) a half-hour red carpet interview program for the 2009 Butler Health System Crystal Ball in less than 2 hours. Whew! The program was played back on two large screen LCD displays as guests made their way through the dinner station lines. In addition to the interviews, guests were given lines from the AFI Top 100 Movie Quotes to recite in their own unique way.
Best Performance: Dr. Tom Shetter performing President Merkin Muffley from Dr. Strangelove...
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"
Most Enthusiastic: Jon Palmiero performing Rod Tidwell from Jerry McGuire...
"Show me the money!"
The proceeds from the 2009 Crystal Ball will be used to enhance diagnosis and prevention of cancer. In 2008, Butler Memorial Hospital was approved by The American College of Surgeons as a National Cancer Center. With the increasing rate of cancer in the Butler County area, enhancement of our cancer services will benefit our community greatly.
The Chairperson for the 2009 Crystal Ball was Kathleen Dudley, owner of The Bloomery Florist in Butler. The Bloomery also supplied all of beautiful rose centerpieces for the event. Congratulations on a wonderful event! |
